That is Torquay, Madam

Tuesday 17 January 2006 11:30-12:00 (Radio 4 FM)

Actress Jayne Ashbourne explores Britain's comedy landscape - the real and fictitious locations which provide settings for our favourite comedies.

From the pretence of a bachelor pad on the top floor of Broadcasting House to St Gregory's, the real-life location for Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights, this first programme also takes in Basil Fawlty's immortal line about the view from a Torquay window and the questionable effect that Alan Partridge had on the blameless citizens of Norwich.

With clips from The Good Life and The League of Gentlemen.
