Essential Mix @The Bomb, Nottingham, 27/10/02

By 2am Congreve's seamless blend of filthy 4/4, complemented by the occasional smattering of breaks, held the crowd in total control. The famous 'On Air' sign sparked into life and this Bomb simply exploded. For the next hour he held court superbly amidst sweaty scenes of communal pandemonium on the sweltering dancefloor.

Pete Tong, now taking to the decks, had something of an act to follow as Congreve bowed out to deafening adulation and a sea of hands. We weren't to be disappointed. Dropping the likes of the Fab Four's fantastic 'Last Night A DJ Blew My Mind' and the monstrous 'Welcome To My Head' by Thunderpuss in a driving, bass-heavy set, he rocked an extremely appreciative crowd.

Before we knew it 4am loomed - would Tong stop or would we be treated to an extra hour courtesy of the clocks going back? Stupid question. The party simply continued, taking in a the fantastic 'Your Love' by Frankie Knuckles along the way to conclude a memorable evening. It was one of those nights when you just didn't want to leave, and the still-packed dancefloor at the finale was testament to that.

A fantastic night had by all, and the Essential Mix is welcome back in Nottingham any time it wants. Couldn't help but stagger out with one lingering thought though. If only those damned clocks could have gone back three hours…
