Size does matter - particularly when you're a promoter. James Beattie, proprietor of The Bomb, would have been heartened to survey the lengthy queue that stretched back down Nottingham's Bridlesmith Gate as he arrived on Saturday night. One girl had taken over two-and-a-half hours to get in. She didn't seem unduly bothered though, and remained insistent; 'It'll be worth the wait.' Indeed it was…
Any Radio 1 live event seems to bring with it, it's own unique air of excited anticipation. And wandering through the labyrinth-like interior of The Bomb it was clear that tonight was no different - the buzz amongst the mixture of regulars and Essential Mix pilgrims propping up the bars was an unmistakable one. This may not have been a typical Saturday night Bomb crowd, but it certainly didn't affect the usual high-spirited, friendly atmosphere for which the venue is renowned.
By 10.30 the intimate main room was already heaving it, resident Dave Congreve effortlessly keeping proceedings chugging along with his own dirty brand of deep tech-house that so typifies this club's sound. The guy deserves a chance to break onto the wider stage, and if he was nervous then he didn't betray it as he energetically worked the EQ's with a smile on his face, undoubtedly in his element.
