BBC WM - more listeners tuning in

There has been a huge jump in the number of listeners tuning into BBC WM each week, according to the latest official figures released today by RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research).

The figures show that BBC WM has an audience of 373,000 each week - that's an extra 100,000 listeners since the last quarter and 75,000 listeners when compared to a year ago.

The station's share of listening in its catchment area is up to 9.3% too - an increase of 3.1% on the last quarter, and 1.6% year on year.

Keith Beech, Managing Editor, BBC WM, says: "We're very pleased that people are returning to the station to hear what we have to offer.

"The figures show we're in a strong position in the area, and with our new schedule starting next month - when Adrian Goldberg takes over the Breakfast Show - we look forward to building on these results even further."

Andy Griffee, Controller, BBC English Regions, adds: "Today's RAJAR figures again show that BBC Local Radio is doing a great job of connecting with the audiences we serve.

"BBC Local Radio reaches millions and is a lifeline to many. I would like to thank the extraordinary people who work so hard to produce the exceptional, quality service we offer for another great showing."
