Record listening figures for BBC London 94.9FM

BBC London 94.9FM today (Thursday 8 May 2003) returned record listening figures for the quarter to March 2003, according to figures published by RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research).

Audiences rose year on year by a massive 107,000 from 330,000 to 437,000 in the fourth successive increase in both reach and share figures for the station.

Quarter on quarter listening figures rose by 21,000.

Share is also up, quarter on quarter from 1.1% to 1.2% and year on year from 0.7% to 1.2%.

Hours of listening rose from 5.81 to 6.02 per week.

The increase means the station has achieved its highest listening figures since the RAJAR methodology changed in 1999.

BBC London Managing Editor David Robey said: "I'm delighted to see the strong growth in our audience figures is continuing at such a competitive time.

"Almost a quarter of our listeners are new to the station since last year and not only is the audience growing, but they're listening for longer, too."
