RADIO LANCASHIRE

BBC Radio Lancashire continues to attract more listeners

The number of people listening to BBC Radio Lancashire is continuing to grow according to the latest figures from RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research).

Figures released today (Thursday 8 May 2003) show that more than 5,000 new listeners have tuned into the station since the last survey in December 2002.

As an extra bonus these people are also listening for longer.

The station has made a number of changes to its programmes over the past year and the figures are an indication of their success.

According to Managing Editor, John Clayton, the number of people who have recently turned to BBC Radio Lancashire is evidence the station is providing what they want to hear.

"The station is thriving and we are providing what the listener wants," he said.

"We have a very strong team behind what you hear on the radio and it is very satisfying to discover the listeners also share our enthusiasm for what we are doing in the county.

"The increase in the number of people listening to the station is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of everyone at Radio Lancashire."

According to the independent research figures, listeners are tuning in for an average of more than nine hours a week, a figure almost an hour up on the same period last year.
