News completes presenter line-up
Gavin
Esler is to join Newsnight, Andrew Neil will host a new
political news programme, and Kirsty Lang is to become the
main presenter on BBC FOUR News, BBC News announced today.
Richard
Sambrook, Director of BBC News said: "The appointment of Gavin,
Kirsty and Andrew adds great strength to our presenting team.
"Their
combined experience as broadcasters and journalists and popularity
with viewers will add to the appeal of their respective programmes."
Gavin
Esler has been a news anchor on BBC News 24 since 1997.
He
has received a Royal Television Society award and has reported for
news and documentary programmes across Europe, Russia, China and
North and South America.
He
was appointed to Washington Correspondent in 1989, and then Chief
North America Correspondent a year later.
Andrew
Neil is to present a new 45 minute programme on BBC ONE looking
at the week in Westminster, to follow Question Time on Thursday
nights.
Neil
is one of the most influential figures in the British media, having
edited the Economist, the Sunday Times and helped to launch Sky
Television.
He
has presented a number of media and political programmes for the
BBC and others.
Kirsty
Lang steps up to become the main news anchor on BBC Four News following
George Alagiah's move to the Six O'Clock News.
She
joined the BBC from Channel Four News in March 2002 and had previously
worked with the Sunday Times as its Paris correspondent.
She
trained at the BBC and worked with the Today programme and Newsnight.

and intelligence that are perfect for the unique remit of BBC FOUR
News."
All
three presenters will take up their new roles in the New Year.
