Dungiven, John Moore of Bovevagh. Page nine

Mrs. Betty Stevenson
Mrs. Betty Stevenson.

Yet another long lost cousin for you Sharon, Betty Stevenson (Buchannan) lives in Limavady and regularly used to visit her Grandparents' house in The Moyse (or Knockendunes as it is also affectionately known, probably because of the sand dunes in the area)

Betty took us to the house where William Henry Moore and his wife Annie (Curry) lived up until Annie died in 1953 (1954?). No it was not that old cottage behind Tommy Simpson's farm. It was the house just up the road, lived in by Tommy Simpson's sister Lorna! From this spot John Moore set out on November 19th 1925 to marry young Jeannie Faulkner in Bovevagh Church.

As you can tell it is a modern bungalow and all that remains of the original house is the left front wall (Behind the porch) and even that has been cement rendered so there is nothing to see. Well that's not quite true, for in the back garden there is still a section of the old garden wall.

Lorna and Betty pose beside the original wall. Note Betty's hand. I didn't ask her to do that for the photo. Here were memories for her of playing in Granny and Grandad's garden, of swinging from one of the pine trees still growing there. Of laughter and playing chase-ees with her brothers and sisters.

"Would you like to see a photo of my grandfather William Henry Moore?" asked Betty "Lets go to a pub".
