THE INNISKILLING DRAGOON
A beautiful damsel, of fame of renown.
A gentleman's daughter near Monaghan town:
As she rode by the barracks, this beautiful maid.
She stood in her coach to see Dragoons on parade. These Dragoons were all dressed just like gentleman's sons
With their bright shining swords and carabine guns;
Their brass-mounted pistols she observed them full soon
Because that she loved an Inniskilling Dragoon. She cooked on the bright sons of Mars,
With their armour outshining the stars of the night,
"Willie! dearest Willie! you have listed too soon
To serve as a brave Inniskilling Dragoon." "O Flora! dear Flora! your pardon I crave
'Tis now and forever that I am your slave
But your parents they have slighted you both morning and noon,
For fear that you'd wed your Inniskilling Dragoon". "0 Willie! dearest Willie' don't mind what they say'
Sure maidens must ever their parents obey;
When the foe you are fighting they'll soon change their tune,"
And cry, "Send you safe, Inniskilling Dragoon." Fare thee well, Inniskillen! Fare thee well, for a while.
To all your fair waters and every green isle!
And when the war is over we'll return again soon,
And you'll all welcome home the Inniskilling Dragoon.
