On seeing this painting by Brian, Dick Macmillan was prompted to send in this photograph, which he took from more or less the same position, of one of the buildings depicted in the painting on fire. He took the photo in the early seventies.
To compare it with Brian's watercolour, look for the two joined roofs in the foreground of Dick's photo. Those same roofs can be found in the middle-ground of Brian's painting. |
