I quaintly labelled this as "Smithfield Ward".

I'm going to need help with this one. I am almost certain
the tall building in the background is Millfield Tech.
It is possible the road between the "Shed" and the "off
licence" might be Wilson Street and Millfield is the
road running right to left across the drawing. The building
with the tatty roof could be the church being renovated.

My mother was born in the cottage in 1916. Her mother owned
this land along with her brother. Annie ran the farm. Before
we emigrated to Canada, we lived in the "now
demolished" red brick houses just down the road (known
as Carnmore Terrace).

The pub on the corner was called Moonies bar, the shed to
the left was a ragstore, a rag collector called Paddy Caulfield
used to sell his collections there the rear of it used to
be stables and before that it was the old Smithfield Jail
[1700s]. I was born in Letitia st. which was off Wilson st.
in 1957 hope this has been of help.

I think the building opposite the pub was Hillands, which
was a scrapmetal and rag store as they were called. When we
were kids we used to collect old clothes and sell them there.
I also think the pub was locally known as Ma Carrolls.
