50 years of visits - some key dates

Thousands turn out to greet the Princess, 1945.

• 1945: Visit by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth [The Queen Mother] accompanied by Princess Elizabeth [now The Queen]. This was the first Royal visit to NI by air.
  
  
• 1946: Princess Elizabeth visited Belfast for the launch of HMS Eagle, Britain's largest aircraft carrier.

Visit to The RUAS show at Balmoral '49.

• 1949: Princess Elizabeth came to Belfast, accompanied by her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh. They visited several industrial concerns and the R.U.A.S. show at Balmoral.

• 1952: (Coronation Year) Queen Elizabeth II visited Northern Ireland and made a steam train journey from Lisburn to Londonderry.
