Our best chance for a new beginning. Pat Armstrong Chairman of the Police Authority for Northern Ireland

From IRISH NEWS November 29th, 2000

The board also has responsibility for developing a code of policing ethics - the crucial principles on which all future policing must be based. These major improvements mean that the authority is now of the view that the balance of the Police Act is about right. The framework has been provided to enable the new board to be a body of real accountability. As we in the authority are preparing for the transition to the new board, it is essential that all political parties and leaders in society act now to give the new board their full backing. The creation of the board will be the first major milestone in what we all are striving towards - a new beginning for policing in Northern Ireland. This is our best chance ever of achieving that aim and we should not let the opportunity pass us by.
