History Exemplar 2 - Lesson exemplars using A State Apart website

The site button on the The Agreement could be used either in coursework or in an investigation of part of a scheme of work. Teachers would aid the learning outcome by preparatory lessons on the 1920 Government of Ireland Act, 1974 Sunningdale Agreement and the 1998 Agreement through use of textbook material or the State Apart video or similar.

Topic The search for an agreement
Learning Outcome To understand the similarities & differences between the 1974 and 1998 Agreements
Key Concepts Change & continuity/ present & past/Similarity & difference
A State Apart Focus [THE AGREEMENT] [TROUBLES]
Citizenship The full range could be targeted here
Suggested Activities There are opportunities here for a range of classes over time accessing the site or a block of 2-4 sessions. These could examine the contexts and contrasts between 1974 and 1998

Pupils should be equipped with a clear instruction on how to access and navigate the site and a well-defined work sheet.

The worksheet should include an opportunity for the pupils:
· To note similarities and differences
· Record factors of change
· Understand differences in contexts
· Check and note technical words

Follow Up This investigation could form the main content for a piece of coursework
