walking the long wide street.
Mother frantic --for bargains
at the second hand stall.
But that's not all ----
--ashamed and frightened
I would really pray and pray
that no one from school
would be looking our way.
After this ordeal -a treat
---chips in the Lido cafe.
Then -- pocket money
to buy comics and wait
until the others had sold
our pigs in J.B.Allen's
auction ring.
My brothers acted as guide
and spies for my father.
They praised our pigs to
all the buyers,dealers and farmers
up and down and around
at the market in Cookstown.
Then one of our neighbours
overheard old Maggie Convery say
"Them Boyle boys of Paddy Joe's
would make you think and believe
that goats dung was brandy balls"
