This life is to live
and day dream whilst dream unfulfilled.
Treading milestones one after another
managing darkness all hours
counting minutes sensing hotness all the while.
Gifted vision damaged by quakes
hunger and malnutrition finishes the leftover.
Marriage steals the childhood thrill
his aroma of daily intoxication
supersedes forest fragrance.
loosing him,
I loose daughter’s youthfulness and vigour
She toils to earn as a child labour.
We cannot enjoy the life’s colour.
youth looks for an escape
we resign to fate.
I cannot
catch fish, collect firewood and see the green field
daily toil for livelihood
a creeper I need support
transferring independent to dependent
I regret my lost mobility
being ignored loose my identity.
I empathize
with other impaired; visually and hearing
atleast I am better
tying knot with silence
assembling unnoticed tears as my intimate mate.
(This is the story of Seemabai (name changed) a single OBC (Other Backward Caste ) visually impaired woman of 40 years of village Pathari village of Kanker block of Kanker district, Chhattisgarh (India). |
