Surf's Pup - pics from the World Dog Surfing Championships

Pups and their owners have taken to the water for the annual World Dog Surfing Championships in America.

The competition, now in its tenth year, saw dogs of all breeds and sizes hitting the waves in the coastal city of Pacifica near San Francisco.

Hundreds of people gathered to cheer on the talented pooches as they showed off their best moves on their boards.

This year's competition featured several categories including surfing, stand-up paddle boarding and tandem surfs.

From small terriers to large labradors - there were plenty of willing pups ready to take to the water, all with their owners nearby.

Some dogs took the competition super seriously, while others looked like they were taking it in their stride all the way to shore.

Dogs were judged on multiple factors, including the length of the ride, their technique and their confidence.

No matter how big or small, all the dogs - like Moxy and Stella here - wore life jackets in case the sea became "ruff".

Some of these surfing pups had years of experience, having competed in the Championships before, while others were chasing waves for the first time.

Organisers say that money raised from the event will be donated to local animal charities.

The pooches certainly seemed to like getting wet and wild, with this one making a real splash!
