Man City appoint new manager to take over from Pep Guardiola

Manchester City will appoint Enzo Maresca as their new manager on a three-year contract to take over from Pep Guardiola.

In May Pep Guardiola announced he would be stepping down as Manchester City's manager at the end of the season.

In a statement the club said: "Manchester City is delighted to announce the appointment of Enzo Maresca as manager.

"The Italian manager has signed a three-year deal that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2029."

Maresca already has experience at City, joining as one of Pep Guardiola's assistant managers in 2022 on a one year contract.

In their announcement the club has highlighted the role he played in helping the club to win the Treble of Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup in 2023.

Maresca, meanwhile has described getting the job as a "dream situation".

In a statement released by the club he said: "Manchester City is a club I know very well and to have the chance to manage this team is a brilliant opportunity for me."

Maresca had previously managed at other football clubs including Leicester, and Chelsea where was head coach but resigned from the role suddenly in January.

With the news about the Man City job becoming public, he's apologised for the disruption caused by leaving Chelsea in the middle of the season.

But added: "My resignation from Chelsea opened a path for me to join Manchester City, which is a club I knew very well."

Chelsea say that Maresca will pay them compensation for leaving his role early now he has been confirmed as Manchester City boss.
