    Witness Erik Whiteside tells CNN he had just got off the plane with his wife and two children, aged two and three, and were heading for the baggage area in Terminal 2 when gunfire erupted. 

    "Everybody started running; I grabbed our kids and took off running down the ramp.

    "We took off down the tarmac and hid behind some luggage carts."

    He said they were later allowed back into the terminal, which serves Delta Air Lines and Air Canada.

    "It looked like a warzone, suitcases everywhere, food on the floor, hats on the ground, it was just a really surreal experience." 

    "It's definitely a stressful situation," he added.

    According to a Fox News reporter, people ran from "a second shooter" before being ushered to safety.

    Speaking to MSNBC and CNN, Florida Senator Bill Nelson named the gunman as Esteban Santiago, and said he had a handgun and a military ID. The senator said he was told this information by Transportation Security Administration officials.

    "We don't know a motive at this point," Nelson said. 

    "This could well be someone who is mentally deranged, or in fact it could be someone who had a much more sinister motive that we have to worry about every day, and that is terrorism. We can't conclude that."
