    There are 754 people in hospital, an increase of 40 on yesterday, and 61 in intensive care, two fewer.

    One further person who tested positive in the last 28 days has died, taking the total by that measure to 2,610 in Scotland.

    That figure is a "reminder of the heartbreak this virus is capable of causing," says the first minister.

    Nicola Sturgeon begins her briefing by outlining the latest figures.

    The first minister confirms a further 993 people have tested positive for Covid-19, 17.1% of those newly tested yesterday.

    This takes the total number of positive cases in Scotland to 47,708.

    Of those, Ms Sturgeon says the provisional data indicates the breakdown of new cases in the following health board areas:

    • NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde: 362
    • NHS Lanarkshire: 294
    • NHS Lothian: 122
    • NHS Ayrshire and Arran: 57

    The remaining cases are spread across seven other mainland health board areas.

    First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will begin her daily briefing shortly.

    We can expect to hear more about the delays in the publication of Covid results over the weekend after a “testing capacity issue” - denied by the UK government - at the Lighthouse lab in Glasgow.

    New rules came into effect today extending the mandatory wearing of face coverings in workplace settings.

    There are also likely to be questions about whether Scotland could follow the example of Wales, where First Minister Mark Drakeford is set to make an announcement about a possible two or three-week "fire-break".
