UEA opened up labs on its Norwich campus to make the product, supported with supplies from businesses, including Southwold brewers Adnams.
The sanitiser was distributed to 15 local health and social care facilities, NHS trusts and community organisations in the East of England, but with demand reducing the university says the project has come to a natural conclusion.
A letter to Norwich School says a pupil was asked to apologise for wearing a Black Lives Matter badge.

New measures to deal with the coronavirus pandemic mean the lifeguards will wear personal protective equipment like ambulance crews in some situations.

Hollywood Bowl, which has seven locations across the East of England says its centres will reopen from 4 July.
The 10-pin bowling alley firm has sites in Peterborough, Norwich, Stevenage, Wellingborough, Basildon and two in Watford.
They are among 54 centres that will reopen for the first time since the UK entered the coronavirus lockdown in March.

The F-15C Eagle, from the 48th Fighter Wing based at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, crashed shortly after 09:30 BST while on a training mission 74 nautical miles off Flamborough Head.
Colonel Will Marshall confirmed the news "with a very heavy heart", saying the pilot's name would not be released until next-of-kin had been notified.
"This is a tragic loss for the 48th Fighter Wing community and our deepest condolences go out to the pilot's family and the 493rd Fighter Squadron," he added.
"The pilot of the downed F-15C Eagle from the 48th Fighter Wing has been located, and confirmed deceased," said a spokesperson.
"The name of the pilot will not be released until all next of kin notifications have been made.
"This is a tragic loss for the 48th Fighter Wing community, and our deepest condolences go out to the pilot’s family and the 493rd Fighter Squadron."
John Laker managed to wake his wife who escaped but he was then overcome by toxic smoke.
