  1. Men try to abduct six-year-old boy in east Londonpublished at 10:38

    Police are putting on extra patrols in Romford, east London, police after two men tried to abduct a six-year-old boy. , external

    Officers say the boy and his eight-year-old brother were playing on their bikes in Harebell Way on Saturday lunchtime when one man tried to force him into a van while a second held the doors open. 

    The boy managed to break free and run away.

    Det Ch Insp Denise Johnson said: "High visibility patrols have been increased in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.

    "I would always ask parents to remind children about the importance of not talking to or going with strangers."

    A protest has taken place outside a London nightclub after a group of women claim two of them were turned away because they were considered "dark and overweight".

    It follows a social media campaign from four friends who say they were stopped from entering DSTRKT on Saturday night.

    Lin Mei, 29, from London, claims she was told two of her group were not welcome.

    The BBC has contacted the club several times for a statement or response.  

  4. London taxi hire proposals would 'be an end' to the way Uber operatespublished at 09:24

    Uber has said a consultation on private hire regulation could spell an end to way the taxi-hailing app operates.

    Transport for London (TfL) is to consult on plans to demand a new English language test, a map-reading assessment, a fixed landline and the chance to book seven days in advance.

    Uber said: "If adopted these [rules] would mean an end to the Uber people know and love."

    Black cab drivers have argued regulations need to be tightened.

    Mayoral hopeful Sadiq Khan, who will address the Labour Party conference later, has insisted "I'm going to be my own person" in the race for City Hall.

    He told the Today programme he and Jeremy Corbyn share a "passion" for fighting inequality and rejuvenating housing, but pledged to be London's advocate even when that means disagreeing with the Labour leadership.

    He claimed he had explained to the shadow chancellor that a top rate of 60p tax "would not make sense - John McDonnell agrees with me now and has changed his mind".

    The A2 into town is congested from the M25 to the Black Prince following a collision.

    And the A3 Northbound is queueing from Ockham Park to Painshill also due to collision. One lane is blocked.

    In Paddington, the Bishops Bridge Road is blocked Westbound at Westbourne Terrace following a collision. There are delays on the approach.

  7. London pupils' success to improve further, says studypublished at 08:23

    High academic attainment among poorer pupils in London's schools is set to improve further, researchers suggest.

    The study by the London School of Economics and the Institute for Fiscal Studies says the success should boost social mobility in the capital.

    The proportion of pupils on free school meals in inner London obtaining five or more A*-C grades at GCSE has more than doubled over a decade, it finds.

  8. First 10 UK womb transplants approvedpublished at 08:12

    Doctors have been granted approval to carry out the UK's first 10 womb transplants, following the success of the procedure in Sweden.

    Dr Richard Smith, a consultant gynaecologist at the Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital in London who has been working on the project for 19 years, will lead the transplant team.

    Ethical approval has been granted for the transplants - as part of a clinical trial - and will launch in spring.

    Around one in 5,000 women are born without a womb, while others lose their womb to cancer.
