The actress was heavily tipped to win this, which is one of the biggest prizes of the night. Janney, who is well known for her role as CJ in The West Wing, played Tonya Harding's pushy mother in the story of the former figure skater's life.
"Thank you to the Academy, my fellow nominees, you represent everything that is good and human about this industry," she says.
She also thanks the I, Tonya family, including "the magnificent Margot Robbie", who produced and played the title role of the film.

The film, directed by Sebastian Lelio, tells the story of a young transgender woman (Daniela Vega) who comes up against discrimination after the death of her older boyfriend.

He's referring to a joke at the beginning of the show where he offered a jet ski to the winner with the shortest acceptance speech tonight (modelled by Dame Helen Mirren).
He says Mark Bridges is winning so far for his snappy acceptance speech for costume design (for Phantom Thread).

Image source, Getty ImagesMark Bridges has just been chatting to the press room about his Oscar for the sumptuous costumes in Phantom Thread - set in the world of fashion itself.
He's worked with Paul Thomas Anderson, the director of the film for 22 years, and says this was "another one in the bag of tricks Paul has".
He says of working on the film:
Quote MessageThere's a little bit of pressure. Will I be able to do justice to the era? Of course, working with Daniel [Day-Lewis], you up your game. Paul and Daniel made me want to be a better designer.
He says he went shopping with Day-Lewis in London's Jermyn Street as part of the research for the film. A whole wardrobe of outfits was then bought for his character.

He says too that it was great having "the luxury of working in London where there are makers of fabrics and access to Europe that we don't have here".

Sam Rockwell - wearing custom-made cufflinks bearing the name of his girlfriend Leslie Bibb - has just rocked up to the press room, celebratory bottle of beer in hand.
Rockwell, who plays disgraced police officer Jason Dixon in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, spoke of his preparation - including riding with cops and meeting up with a skin graft doctor.
He then pays an emotional tribute to his friend, the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, having dedicated his Oscar to him on stage at the end of his speech.
"You guys heard that? I thought the music was playing," he said, looking genuinely pleased, before adding: "I guess you want to start making me cry.
"He was an old friend of mine. He was very close to me and he was an inspiration to all of my peers."
Rockwell was asked about the fact some people found his character in Three Billboards problematic for being racist and homophobic.

The trophy was presented to him by last year's best supporting actress, Viola Davis (pictured).
Rockwell dedicated his award to Philip Seymour Hoffman in his acceptance speech.
Speaking backstage, he said: "Whoever was in my age range Phil Hoffman was the guy. He was a great inspiration."

The film, about doping in sport, sees cyclist Bryan Fogel contact Dr Grigory Rodchenkov, the head of the anti-doping laboratory that tests Russian Olympians.
Fogel said: "We hope Icarus is a wake-up, yes about Russia, but we hope more than that, the importance of telling the truth, now more than ever."
Icarus beat off competition from Faces Places, co-directed by Agnes Varda - the oldest nominee in Oscars history at 89 years old.
Who, incidentally, is attending the ceremony in person tonight, rather than as a cardboard cut-out.
The award was presented by Greta Gerwig and Laura Dern.

"In the 47 minutes since tonight's show started, Black Panther has made another $48m at the box office," jokes Kimmel as the ceremony returns after a commercial break.
"Black Panther has been so successful at the box office, it's already the favourite to not get nominated next year," he adds.

This award seems apt and isn't a huge surprise - Darkest Hour's hair and make-up team has been heavily praised by critics for helping Gary Oldman transform into former British prime minister Winston Churchill.

"You guys rock!" says Rockwell of his fellow nominees. He also thanks his Three Billboards co-stars Woody Harrelson and Frances McDormand.
He thanks "everybody involved in Three Billboards and everyone who's ever looked at a billboard," to laughs from the crowd.

Pointing out Margot Robbie in the audience, the presenter says: "Whose kneecaps did Tonya Harding have to break to get that kind of dream casting?"
"Timothee Chalamet is missing Paw Patrol to be here tonight," he continues, referring to one of tonight's youngest nominees.
"We don't make films like Call Me By Your Name to make money, we make them to upset Mike Pence," he adds, referring to the US vice president.
"Guillermo Del Toro made a beautiful movie, and thanks to him we will always remember this as the year that men screwed up so badly, women started dating fish."
He also brings out Dame Helen Mirren for a funny sequence involving a jet ski - which he offers to the winner tonight who provides the shortest speech.

And with that, Kimmel introduces tonight's first category - best supporting actor.
Image source, Getty ImagesThe ceremony kicks off with an old-school black and white video montage, highlighting some of the stars in the audience, before Jimmy Kimmel takes to the stage.
"Greetings from Hollywood. It is a great honour to be invited back for a second time," our master of ceremonies says.
He immediately makes a joke referring to the envelopegate mishap of last year.
"This year, when you hear your name called, don't get up right away," he laughs.
"What happened last year was unfortunate," he goes on. "A week before the show last year the producers asked if I wanted to do some comedy with the accountants. I said no. So the accountants went ahead and did comedy on their own. And I have to hand it to them, it was hilarious."
"I'm hopeful that things will go smoothly tonight. This is a big one, this is the 90th Academy Awards."
He also makes reference to Harvey Weinstein, who has been expelled from the Academy after a string of sexual harassment allegations.
"We can't let bad behaviour slide anymore. the world is watching us, we need to set an example," Kimmel says.
Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya has become one of the biggest stars of the UK acting circuit this awards season.
He's been speaking about his nominations from the red carpet.
