Actress, director and writer Lena Dunham has burst back onto the scene with her memoir Famesick, chronicling her chronic illness and the height of her fame as the creator, star and showrunner of Girls when she was a frequent invitee to the Met Gala.
One such time, Dunham fainted at the soiree and awoke to Maggie Gyllenhaal agreeing that the gala can be “overwhelming.” After a period away from the spotlight, when she “stopped being invited to the Met Gala, but people started inviting me to their weddings again,” she writes in Famesick, Dunham is back on the carpet for the event in custom red Valentino.
“I move towards the right thing in the wrong way,” she told CNN’s Rachel Tashjian, who likened that sensibility to having “taste.” Tonight it looks like she moved towards Nicole Kidman’s very similar taste…

Finally some drama! Naomi Osaka, who arrived in white and red Robert Wun as one of the only guests truly serving thus far, didn’t disappoint on the Met steps where she gave us a second outfit reveal, this time a deep maroon dress with a lace-up back.

Nicole Kidman has always understood the power of fashion as art.
Remember her epic Chanel No. 5 short film directed by Baz Luhrmann in 2005, the year the culturista co-chaired the gala for the second time? Her first was in 2003, and this year marks the third time.
She’s again in custom red Chanel with feathers, attending alongside her daughter, model Sunday Rose.
“I’m so, so happy, and my daughter, Sunday, will be coming,” she told the Las Culturistas podcast.

The Met Museum’s steps have been used before for mini fashion shows, such as when Lady Gaga kept shedding layers to reveal new looks in 2019, but I can’t remember a full fledged choreographed performance such as this.

Image source, ReutersThe Met Gala is drawing its fair share of backlash this year, with protesters gathering outside.
It's a reaction that's been building for weeks - primarily over the sponsorship and involvement of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sanchez Bezos.
Last month, bright red posters began showing up at bus tops, subway stations and on the walls of Manhattan’s omnipresent construction sites calling for people to “boycott the Bezos Met Gala”.
On Friday, protesters placed hundreds of bottles of what was apparently urine inside The Met, and installed, external a basket of empty water bottles outside the museum, both in apparent reference to claims by Amazon workers over the years that they are so overworked they cannot take adequate bathroom breaks.
When the museum revealed in February that the Bezoses were not only sponsoring the event, but would be honorary chairs, some members of the fashion industry elite were dismayed.
Federico Marchetti, former chief executive of the Yoox Net-a-porter group, said online: “Jeff Bezos, please start paying the fair amount of taxes before sponsoring anything you want.”
