    Det Ch Insp Ruby Burrow, of Nottinghamshire Police, said there was no indication currently that there was an "ongoing threat to the wider public".

    She added: "We understand the incident will cause concern in the community.

    “Officers will remain at the scene today to carry out further inquiries, speak to local people and offer reassurance.

    “It is also important anyone with information, or relevant dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage, gets in touch without delay.”

    Police have cordoned off the area while investigations take place.

    Market Place is closed as well as the junctions from Gedling Road to Derby Street, Hallams Lane and Central Avenue.

    Police said the closures were expected to remain in place "for some time" and advised people to avoid the area.

    Public transport has also been affected, with Nottingham City Transport confirming its Lime 59 service will not be serving certain stops while the roads are closed.
