Later, Smith is hosting an album party at the Sugar Loaf pub.

Landlady Emma Dugan says he has "spent many weekends here".

"I'm super proud of him and because he's such a humble guy, he deserves all this," she says.

Emma says not everyone has got a positive image of Luton "but the actual community and people in it are really good people".

"So Myles is doing something massive for us and we really respect that."

Superfan Isabella woke at 05:00 to travel from Surrey to Luton.

The 17-year-old says she has followed Smith since “day one” and has found it “amazing” to watch him grow as an artist.

She’s also been making the most of the day, exploring the town and tracking down the locations for the different Smith-related events.

"I've loved all the activities and being with my friends just like running around the whole place trying to find all the signs everywhere," she says.

"I came here for a pop up back in March, so I slightly know my way around, but it's been really nice to explore it more, for sure.

"I'm looking forward to seeing Myles very much."

Kwame Kyei is Smith’s long-time barber. He has been trimming the star's hair since before the singer's rise to fame.

"He would do a skin on the side and just tidy up the top, you know, keep it very nice and neat and stylish too," he says.

"He likes to dye it a little bit, back in the day he would dye his hair blond at the top."

Fans could sign up for a free hair cut on Myle's website last week and spaces quickly ran out.

"It's an exciting time for us, to see a proper Lutonian having done so well and coming back to the community and giving back, it's brilliant.

"We are all excited for him, that he's actually remembered where he came from and actually coming back to the community to give back."

Paul Jeboda, part of Smith’s management team, first met him more than a decade ago when the singer was at university.

He says Smith’s return to Luton shows young people in the town that “anything is possible”.

"He comes from these same places that everyone here comes from today, and the fact that he's gone on to do what he's done - hopefully we can inspire at least one person to see that it's possible."

Jeboda credits the star's success to discipline and self-belief.

He says: "He's always had his head down.

"He's always been very disciplined, he's always like believed in himself, he's always been true to himself.

"Someone who carries that in literally everything that they do, as long as they never give up, success could only be inevitable."
