    The States of Alderney says multiple trees are already down due to Storm Goretti, including at Newtown, Braye Road and Longis Road.

    It says clearance will start "as soon as daylight and conditions allow", and urged islanders to avoid affected areas if possible, and to stay safe.

    Damage to properties in La Corvee area has also been reported.

  2. Train disruption set to continue into Fridaypublished at 22:24 GMT 8 January

    We've heard from GWR who say travel disruption will continue until Friday at 12:00 GMT.

    It said that train services running across the whole network will be revised.

    Earlier, Network Rail said all trains in Cornwall, between Exeter and Okehampton, and between Exeter and Barnstaple, would be suspended from 18:00 GMT on Thursday.

  3. Alderney weather station records '123mph gust'published at 22:20 GMT 8 January

    A weather station at Fort Albert in Alderney said it had recorded a gust of 107 knots, which is equal to 123mph, at 21:01 GMT.

    The station, run by Alderney Electricity, is one of four on the island, external.

    BBC Radio Cornwall reporter David Dixon is in Penzance, Cornwall.

    He said he thought the town had not been hit as hard as some other parts of the county due to the direction of the wind.

    He added the wind was "howling" and the streets were "strewn with bins", and there were some branches down.

    He said: "The sea is not that rough, waves are not topping over the promenade despite the fact it was high tide. All of the boats in the dock seem well-secured and look fine."

  5. One person moved out of home due to storm damagepublished at 22:05 GMT 8 January

    A Guernsey resident is being moved out of their home into a hotel because of "significant damage to their property".

    The Joint Emergency Services Control Centre said it was getting regular reports of damage including scaffolding collapsing, damage to roofs, windows blowing in and a telephone pole collapsing.

    It said there had also been reports of a gazebo coming loose.

    More than 20 fallen trees have been reported across Guernsey and Alderney.

    Guernsey's emergency services are repeating a call for islanders to only call 999 for emergencies.

    On a Facebook post they said: "While we appreciate these calls are being made out of genuine concern and a desire to be helpful, police and fire staff are stretched at the moment responding to a wide variety of incidents, so please only call 999 in an emergency.

    "You can call 01481 222 222 to speak to an operator in a non-emergency situation, but please be patient as call numbers are high at the moment."

    The peak of Storm Goretti arrived in the island at about 20:30 and is expected to continue into the early hours of Friday.

  7. Traffic on Tamar Bridgepublished at 21:48 GMT 8 January

    Judging by the webcams, external it looks like some lanes are open on the Tamar Bridge.

    On its website it now says: "Due to high winds the centre lane of the bridge is currently closed."

    Earlier, The Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry Joint Committee said it closed the bridge - which connects Devon and Cornwall - to all vehicles due to the stormy weather.

  8. More than 50,000 properties without power across Devon and Cornwallpublished at 21:35 GMT 8 January

    The National Grid, external website shows more than 47,800 properties are without power in Cornwall. In Devon, the figure is more than 2,100 and in the Isles of Scilly almost 600 properties are without power.

    We asked you on the BBC Cornwall Facebook page if Storm Goretti had reached where you are this evening.

    Tracie Penhaligon said it was "fierce" in Four Lanes, near Redruth, where a tree had fallen, blocking one road, and a roof had come off a shop.

    Sarah Moore, from Zoar near St Keverne, said: "No electric. We live in a static home. It's shaking. We dare not open the door it will be taken by the wind."

    Julianne Grafton described the scene as "scary" in Falmouth.

  11. Tamar Bridge closed to all vehicles due to extreme weatherpublished at 21:23 GMT 8 January
    Breaking

    The Tamar Bridge - which connect Devon and Cornwall - is temporarily closed to all vehicles due to the extreme weather conditions.

    The Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry Joint Committee said it was no longer safe for vehicles to cross the bridge.

    People have been urged to "seek alternative routes if travel is essential - our ferry service currently remains active, providing access between Torpoint and Devonport", it said.

    The committee added: "We understand travel disruption is frustrating, however safety is our priority.

    "Thank you for your understanding, and please travel safe."

  12. Delayed school start timespublished at 21:22 GMT 8 January

    There are two schools currently with delayed opening times in Cornwall on Friday morning.

    Mousehole School is set to open at a later time of 09:30 GMT, with Newlyn School opening at a later time of 10:00 GMT.

    Paul Kimber sent us this image as the wind strengthened and whipped up the waves in the harbour at Porthleven in Cornwall, the most southerly port in Britain.

    Paul, who works in Hayle near St Ives, says "we got sent home from work, all the schools got closed down here.

    "The route home to Helston was flooded in places", he adds.

    "We'll be battening down the hatches. The wind is getting stronger."

    BBC South West senior broadcast meteorologist David Braine said the wind had whipped up some very steep waves around the coasts of Cornwall.

    Station 62107 Sevenstones Lightship, between Land's End and the Isles of Scilly, has reported average wave heights of 20ft (6m).
