Jonathan Grey, the Conservative councillor at Huntingdonshire District Council, held his seat for the Kimbolton ward. His seat was the second to be declared in the count.

He secured 912 votes, with Reform UK coming in second with 298 votes.

"I think there is curiosity to what the results will look like... and how those results will shake out.

"Locally, people are very upset with the reduction of services; potholes came up time and time again, even though I am a district councillor."

  3. South Cambridgeshire before the electionpublished at 10:51 BST 8 May

The Liberal Democrats have dominated the politics of South Cambridgeshire in recent years.

It has run the district council since 2018 and strengthened its numbers on the authority in 2022 when it took 37 of the 45 available seats. The Conservatives took the remainder.

The Liberal Democrats won all three Westminster seats that cover the district in the 2024 general election. They also won every seat in the South Cambridgeshire area in last year's county council election.

  4. South Cambridgeshire leader keeps her seatpublished at 10:43 BST 8 May

The leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council, Bridget Smith, has retained her Gamlingay seat for the Liberal Democrats. Her seat was the first to be declared in South Cambridgeshire.

She secured 821 votes, with Reform UK in second place on 496.

Speaking to me before the result, she said there had been some nervous moments yesterday, but was more relaxed by the time she attended the verification overnight.

  5. Huntingdonshire before the electionpublished at 10:38 BST 8 May

The district was in 'no overall control' before this election.

    In 2022, the results were:

    Conservatives: 22

    Independents: 15

    Liberal Democrats: 10

    Labour: 4

    Greens: 1

Despite the Conservatives being the largest party, a joint administration of the Liberal Democrats, Labour, Greens and Independents was set up to run the council.

Meanwhile, counting has also started in St Ives for the seats at Huntingdonshire District Council.

The Conservatives have already held three of their seats - Alconbury, Kimbolton and Somersham wards.

The Liberal Democrats have also held their seat in Fenstanton.

In One Leisure's sports hall today, there feels like an almost nervous hush around the place.

Will any party have enough to form a majority, or will we once more have no party in overall control?

  7. Counting is under way in South Cambridgeshirepublished at 10:24 BST 8 May

Today I'm in South Cambridgeshire, where counting has begun for the district council.

I've been told that turnout in the district yesterday was 47.26%.

The word among candidates is that the Liberal Democrats have done very well and could increase their majority. In 2022, they took 37 of the 45 seats available.

Elsewhere in the county - South Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire and Cambridge City councils are all counting today. We'll bring you the results as they emerge throughout the day.

South Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire had 'all out' elections on Thursday, which meant every seat was contested. In South Cambridgeshire that is 45 seats and 52 in Huntingdonshire.

Meanwhile, Cambridge City elects its councillors in thirds, so just 15 seats were up for grabs.

  9. Peterborough City Council remains in no overall controlpublished at 10:11 BST 8 May

The results were counted at KingsGate Community Church overnight.

Here is the new political make-up of Peterborough City Council:

    • Conservative - 13 seats
    • Labour - 11 seats
    • Independents - 9 seats
    • Liberal Democrats - 8 seats
    • Peterborough First - 8 seats
    • Green Party - 6 seats
    • Reform UK - 5 seats

The Conservatives won three seats, making it the largest party. Reform UK also gained four seats, with the Greens gaining one.

However, the council remains in no overall control.

A total of 18 out of the city council's 60 seats were up for grabs, with an overall voter turnout of 35.24%.
