The team received a Highly Commended in the Outstanding Digital Team of the Year at the Drum Awards 2021 -
Drum Online Media Awards 2020 - Winner of the Editorial Innovation of the Year award
The team won Editorial Innovation of the Year at the Drum Online Media Awards 2020. Judges said the SDU had ‘enriched the regional news industry’ and was ‘breaking the mould in passing on these crucial data journalism skills’. -
Sigma Awards 2020 – Open Data
The SDU was shortlisted in the open data category of the worldwide Sigma data journalism awards 2020 which received 510 entries by 287 organisations spanning 66 countries.
Hack Days

MyEU Hack Day Birmingham 2020
The Shared Data Unit hosted the MyEU Hackday in February 2020, looking at the network of funding streams the UK had previously received from the European Union. The SDU worked in partnership with The University of Birmingham and the local news industry. -
Open Contracting Salford 2018
The Shared Data Unit hosted an Open Contracting Hackday in December 2018, looking at government contractual data and working in partnership with open data advocates in the wider community
