Because of Los Almos being an atomic facility, it started to cause concern that these green fireballs were appearing over the instillation. A lot has been made of this by the UFO community.

They asked the question were they appearing over any other installations such as Troy New York or places like that. The answer was no - the only thing that came close was bright white objects near Oak Ridge. What they thought were small meteorites only an inch across coincided with the Gemini showers on 10th to 12th December.

Another factor discussed was that the only other explanation was one that he first proposed and had his ears promptly boxed for. It was that they were the defensive manoeuvres of some higher U.S. command and that they were practising in the neighbourhood of the regions they were going to defend, so naturally the locations of light near the atomic bomb installations.

In his own words, "Boy was I scolded for that. Dr Teller stated, "if I can just believe everything I have heard and put it all together with what I theoretically believe in, it ought to be a material body it might be an electron phenomena".
