  2. Women who have inspired uspublished at 12:41 GMT 8 March 2017

To mark this year's International Women's Day Jane and Jenni looked back at some of the most inspiring women they spoke to in the last year

    Jane Garvey
    Woman's Hour

Caring is a subject that we could feature every week and I think we would probably find a receptive audience. Almost all of our listeners at some point in their lives will have been involved in caring. We have women who listen to Woman's Hour in their late 60s who could well be in a position where they are looking after their own parents, helping to look after their grandchildren, and possibly caring for a partner as well.

    Quote Message

These women are extraordinary, they are the backbone of the nation and they are sometimes leading exceptionally challenging lives

We had a string of conversations about caring in late February, but the one I will always remember is a listener called Sue, who wanted to talk about what it was like to be a reluctant carer for her husband, who was without question the love of her life. He was an attractive, powerful, exciting man to be around and he is now someone that she has to physically and mentally care for - and frankly she finds it tough and she resents it, and she is courageous enough to be willing to say so.

There is a long history of female composers but they were often overlooked in the male-dominated world of classical music. BBC Radio 3 is hoping to reclaim some of those forgotten musicians by shining a light on women's contribution to music.

Hull's events range from the story of the woman dubbed the Mighty Atom - the city's own 'Battling' boxer Barbara Buttrick, external - to a group lesson in how to hula a hula hoop.
