  1. "I'd like to say it's going to be great, but it's going to hurt"published at 10:37 GMT 19 March 2016

Eddie has been on a fairly comfortable pace on the marathons - or as comfortable as you can get when you're running 26 miles a day. But that double marathon brings new challenges, so Eddie and Tim the physio seek advice from Martin Yelling, an ultramarathon runner and coach. "I'd like to say it's going to be great, but it's going to hurt" - thanks for that, Martin!

    (Day 26, Marathon 25)

It's the morning before the final day and that double marathon, and Dr Gary urges calm around the whole team. Eddie is in his Crystal Palace shirt again but that delicate part of the footballer's foot - the metatarsal - is causing some discomfort. Our marathon man is battling on, as he has done for the past 25 incredible days. Go Eddie!

  4. My 1000km road trip to meet the Marathon Manpublished at 09:41 GMT 19 March 2016

    Alan Denyer

Eddie Izzard might be running 700 miles for Sport Relief, but superfan Alan Denyer travelled almost as far, just to pass on a letter…

When my friend Richard was unable to meet his hero, Eddie Izzard, I made a spur-of-the-moment decision to drive across South Africa in a thunderstorm, track Eddie down mid-marathon, and give him a letter from my mate.

Richard, our buddy Hayley and I are huge fans of the Marathon Man - the world’s a better place with him in it. And it’s not every day Eddie Izzard runs a marathon in my home country of South Africa (actually, I may have spoken too soon there... )

    Letter to Eddie Izzard

I knew finding Eddie would be a long shot. His routes are off the beaten track and updates on his location were sparse. But when I recognised one of the places in his Twitter photos, I decided to try my luck. My friend Natalie came along to keep me company, even though she had no idea who Eddie Izzard was!

We left at 7am and it was already hot. Running 27 marathons in this heat, when you’re not even from this country and used to these temperatures, is something truly special.

The landscape is desolate. You can see for miles and the roads are dead straight. All I could think was: where the hell is Eddie?

    Text about Eddie Izzard

We still needed to print Richard’s letter to Eddie. Richard had sent it to me the day before, but the cell phone and internet reception was so bad we couldn’t access the email, let alone print the letter! Eventually we found an internet café that was open – phew.

Driving through Mountain Zebra National Park, we spied buffalo, wildebeest and, of course, zebra.

Animals in Mountain Zebra National Park

Suddenly, we found ourselves in the middle of the most amazing African thunderstorm; in 40 minutes, it went from boiling heat to hail. It was crazy - we couldn’t see the road in front of us and had to drive so slowly. There were dark clouds hanging over the plains and lightning strikes everywhere.

By now, we’d been on the road for hours. The park was closing; no-one seemed to know anything about Eddie. I consoled myself with the thought that, if nothing else, we knew Eddie was, or would be, here at some point. Just as we were about to leave, we spotted him!

    Eddie Izzard with Alan Denyer

It was completely surreal. My mind went blank and I couldn't remember where I'd put Richard's letter. As I ran over, the saying ‘never meet your heroes’ crept into my mind. But Eddie didn’t let us down. He chatted, took photos with us and even signed a cap I’d bought Richard as a surprise (Richard’s since told me he's put his honoured cap in a glass cabinet!) Eddie was faultless, a perfect gentleman and showed respect to everyone, even halfway through a gruelling marathon!

    Eddie Izzard-signed hat

I’ve always been a huge fan of Eddie’s comedy and how non-judgemental he is. He inspires people to live the life they want.

I’m straight, but I’ve worn women’s clothes for about 15 years. I don’t wear them every day, there’s no set pattern, it just depends on what I feel comfortable in. If it was -2 degrees, I’d be wearing a furry coat, but it was 42 degrees on the day I met Eddie, so I wore a skirt and sandals.

    Eddie Izzard and Alan Denyer

Unfortunately, people in South Africa aren’t always open-minded. Men are told to play rugby or go fishing. You’re put in a box - this is who you’re supposed to be and how you’re supposed to dress. Anything outside of the norm is considered ‘freaky’.

It’s difficult sometimes, but good friends help you through. My friends were the ones who challenged me to wear this outfit: ‘You’re meeting Eddie Izzard, you’d better dress properly!’ I also had a French manicure the night before. Eddie’s red nails are outstanding - you can’t miss them!

    Text about Eddie Izzard

Earlier in the day, I’d messaged Richard and Hayley to say we’d hit the road... The next thing I sent was a photo of me with the Marathon Man himself! Richard said, "oh my God, Alan," and started crying. Eddie is his superhero, so for one of his best friends to actually meet him and pass on his letter… it was emotional. Richard and Hayley were jumping up and down like little children on Christmas Day - between them, there was enough adrenaline to power a small gun!

We followed Eddie to the finish line and he came up to us again and said: "Thank you so much, you are awesome."

    Text about Eddie Izzard

After that, you just think, now what? What can possibly be better than this? It was such an honour to meet Eddie. What he’s doing for Sport Relief is astounding - he isn’t even a professional athlete!

We ended up driving 1000km and spending 11 hours in the car just to say hello, but sometimes it’s good to be a bit crazy.
