  1. "It's definitely one of our favourite classics at home"published at 20:39

In a flashback to a previous Final showstopper (see Series 4), Nadiya's making a three-tiered wedding cake, keeping it classic with a lemon drizzle sponge, and topping it with a marshmallow fondant. She's crafting Indian sarees around each cake, in a nod to her wedding, which took place in Bangladesh.

"I like lemon cakes. I like chocolate cakes. I like mud cakes..." says Nadiya's very cute daughter in her family VT. Could we have just met a Star Baker of the future?

  3. "It's going to be no less than five cakes"published at 20:37

Ian's setting the record for the most tiers in the tent tonight, with a whopping five planned for his colossal curvy carrot cake, which will be assembled on a stand he's build especially for the challenge.

Paul's concerned about Ian's consistency across his tiers, while Mary's questioning his lack of time. Sue's being visited by visions of a "cascading liquid carrot".

Meanwhile, we're questioning where Ian got his massive garden fork from, as seen in his family VT. (All the better for tucking into his whopping five tiers, we presume.)

  5. Tamal's history-inspired Showstopperpublished at 20:34

For his last hurrah, Tamal's getting creative with his sugar spinning skills, crafting a sticky toffee pudding cake, containing figs, dates, oranges, lemons and prunes, decorating it with cobwebs.

Interestingly, the classic British bake has been inspired by an abandoned Chinese fishing village, causing Sue to declare her love for Tamal, along with the rest of the country. Will his big sister, who taught him to bake in the first place, approve?

  6. The final challenge revealed - classic British cakes!published at 20:32

The bakers' final challenge of the series is announced; they must bake for their lives, presenting single-flavoured, but multi-tiered cakes, complete with 'bells, whistles and jazz hands' to Mary and Paul. Each cake requires at least three tiers.

With four hours on the clock, will the bakers be pushed to the limit?

"The finished result, when we walk up to it, has got to wow us," Mary explains.

    No pressure, guys...

The rain drumming onto the tent is presumably not helping!

  7. The millefeuille meet the judgespublished at 20:31

The bakers have left their final Technical Challenge bakes on the gingham clothed altar and Mary and Paul have arrived to judge.

Tamal's layers have suffered serious evaporation, according to Paul. "It looks as though you sat on the top to squash the layers in," Mary says.

"This one is a bit neater," Paul observes, coming to Nadiya's attempt. "It feels like a shortcrust," he finds, although it 'ticks a lot of the boxes'.

Finally, Ian's millefeuille icing has an issue and hasn't bonded to the top of the pastry, due to a lack of sugar syrup, although his pastry is more than passable.

    The results...

    1. Nadiya
    2. Ian
    3. Tamal

Nadiya looks delighted to have overcome her initial Technical Challenge demons to take the last top spot of the series. "My goodness, that was so tough!" She exclaims outside, after laughing.

Ian's placing his hopes on his Showstopper, which he's had good form with in the past.

And third-placed Tamal is aware he may have some catching up to do with the Showstopper...

  8. "Real knife-edge stuff"published at 20:27

There's less than half an hour to go of the last Technical Challenge, and for some reason, the bakers are all in a bit of a tizzy.

"This is the worst pastry in the world ever," Tamal mutters mid-bake, clearly not having a great time of it.

"You do wonder why you put yourself through this at times," Ian says, seemingly forgetting he's in the Final.

And, despite having her pastry enviously praised by Tamal, Nadiya's also panicking; "I can't even count. I can't even do key stage one maths... Whatever happens here today I have to live with for the rest of my life!"

  9. Meanwhile, on the internet...published at 20:26

Tamal's thanks to Nadiya for helping him clean up his bench earlier, when he referred to her as his 'little chum', is now trending worldwide on Twitter.

  10. "Are we on talking terms now?"published at 20:24

Mel's quizzing Nadiya on her tempestuous relationship with pastry.

"We're on talking terms now. Post cream horn, we've reconciled," she confirms.

Meanwhile, Ian is delighted to get stuck into his strawberry jam. "I'm comfortable with jam," he reveals. Could Ian take the Technical Challenge with his jammy knowledge?

  11. "Shake hands once again with Mr Pastry"published at 20:23

For the bakers' final Technical Challenge, Paul Hollywood's pulled out a recipe for a terrifyingly tricky masterpiece - a raspberry millefeuille.

They need to make six of these beauties, including crisp layers of rough puff pastry, Chantilly cream and delicate icing.

According to Paul, he's gone for this challenging flaky pastry number because he thinks it'll hit a weak spot borne by all three finalists. The rotter.

  13. "Overall the texture of the bun is beautiful"published at 20:20

Mary's quick to notice the lack of shine on Tamal's controversial royal icing, although Paul thinks the bake itself looks good.

His flavours and the bakes of both types of bun have praise heaped upon them by Mary and Paul, although the icing is criticised more than once.

Can Tamal's flavours alone keep him in the running for the title?

  14. "Both of those tick the boxes"published at 20:19

Paul can't see any rips in Nadiya's buns, but he's not being particularly forthcoming about whether that's a good thing or not. Meanwhile, Mary appreciates their 'original finish'.

"The jam is quite sharp, and you put the right amount in," Mary says of Nadiya's fingers. Paul declares that the buns are neat and 'full of flavour'.

"Let me wipe him down," Sue says, approaching Paul. "Oh no, we'll do it with a hose later," Mary decides. Zing!

  15. "Sheer heaven on a plate"published at 20:18

Mary assesses Ian's buns, critiquing his icing as being on the messy side, but praising the look of the fillings, which have been neatly piped.

Paul wastes no time in hacking one in two, in both senses of the word; "the icing doesn't go with the filling," he announces of Ian's spiced buns, "it's too completely different things."

Ian realises he missed a key ingredient in the dough; sugar.

Luckily for Ian, Paul and Mary praise his elderflower and lemon bake; "a sheer joy to eat," Mary says.

  17. "I can't use my creme pat"published at 20:15

The bakers are in the final stretch of the Signature Challenge and disaster strikes as Tamal's creme pat hasn't set in time, leaving him to abandon it. Will his flavours still pack a punch without it?

  18. Spectacular Nadiya face alert!published at 20:13

Nadiya's donned one of her famous faces (which now have their own fan site, external) as a reaction to Tamal explaining that buns are usually batch baked within touching distance of each other.

"It's fine if you want to break the mould," he teases. You know, on Paul's favourite thing in the world..."

(What was that sound? Oh, just the internet exploding...)

  19. The bakers attempt to prove itpublished at 20:12

The buns are proving for a second time as the bakers get back to making their flavours.

Sue takes the opportunity to probe Ian's 'hedgerow-raiding soul' in an attempt to get him to reveal how much he wants to win. "It's alright for you to say 'I want this'," Sue whispers to a smiling, but tight-lipped Ian.

  20. "Shall we start that again!?"published at 20:10

Nadiya can't quite get her words out to Mary, Paul and Mel as she tries to reveal her Signature Bake flavours.

"Hold your hand out," Paul orders. "You are shaking," he exclaims. The rotter!

Nadia's ambitious bakes will see her diversify from the traditional iced finger shape, with her round cardamom and almond buns. However, she's not entirely breaking with tradition, as she's also making nutmeg and sour cherry fingers.

"Why shouldn't a bun be round?" Mary asks Paul, who's really upping the pressure this year.

"My buns are always round!" Mel cheerily reveals.
