FACTS

Many (but by no means all) of Derbyshire's loveliest walks are within the Peak District National Park.

The Peak District National Park covers some 555 sq miles.

Half of the population of England lives within 60 miles of the Peak District.

The highest point in the Peak is Kinder Scout at 2,088 ft (636m).

In recent years there has been a massive growth in the number of walkers enjoying the countryside.

It has become an all-inclusive sport and one that can be enjoyed at all levels.

Pete's walking tip
Tourist Information Centres have advise on walks which are suitable for people with disabilities.

And remember where a wheelchair can go so can a pram or pushchair. Don't let children stop you walking!
Most walkers in fact probably wouldn't even consider themselves walkers!

There are now more opportunities for people with disabilities to enjoy the countryside more actively too.

The Ramblers Association has done a great deal to promote this in recent years as have many local authorities.

The Fieldfare Trust (0114 270 1668) works closely with many local authorities to help promote access to the countryside for people with limited mobility.
