Hunting the Beagle
Listen again to this programme at Radio 4
HMS Beagle is one of the most scientifically important ships ever to sail the oceans - famous for the five-year voyage during which the ship's scientist, Charles Darwin, began to formulate the ideas which would become the basis of our understanding of evolution.
But then she vanished. Now, a century and a half later, biologist and maritime historian Dr Robert Prescott of the University of St Andrews, is certain he knows exactly where the Beagle is.
First broadcast 9 January 2009 on Radio 4.
