Dilemma: Stackers (Ollie)

Can you help Ollie solve his dilemma?

Thursday 9th November

I need help! I haven’t had a crisis this bad since I shrunk my Chess Club T-shirt on Final Match day!

Ok Ollie, calm down… Breathe.

Here’s the thing. I signed up as a lunchtime library volunteer last week. (It was either that or gardening duty and I am not a “digging in the rain” kind of kid). I thought a bit of shelf dusting, some light reading would be perfect… Until I found out who is running Library Duty…

Maxwell!

Maxwell, a character in So Awkward, stands holding a book in front of a library book shelf.

Maxwell is in charge of every single library volunteer! (I’m sure Mrs Griggs meant to ask me, obviously, I guess he just got there first.). Now I have to do everything Maxwell tells me! Being ordered around by a younger, less experienced stacker is more than I can bear.

Problem is if I quit library duty it’s goodbye warm library and hello cold muddy garden.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can deal with Maxwell? Or should I just quit? Do you like it when your friends are in charge?

Please please leave your comments and tell me about your experiences below. I need all the help I can get!

Monday 13th November

It’s a nightmare. I can’t believe this is happening. First of all thank you to soawksdancerpottersuperfan5 and rainbowstarwberries for your genius suggestions that I talk to Maxwell and tell him that I am willing to work with him, and maybe ask Maxwell to be my assistant. Glad to know I’m not the only one this has happened to!

Anyway, just when I thought I had it under control, Maxwell volunteered me for Gardening Duty! For some reason he thought that I needed cheering up and would enjoy some fresh air. I don’t know where he gets these ideas.

To make matters worse, he’s gone and replaced me with my cousin Cassie!!!

Cassie from So Awkward stands smugly in a library.

It’s bad enough getting sent out into the cold, barren wasteland that is the school garden. But to be rejected for a younger, less experienced librarian is too much.

I have to get my job back. But how?

How can I get out of gardening duty and get back to the nice warm library?

Wednesday 15th November

SO many fantastic suggestions since my last post! Thank you all so much!

Sorry I haven’t blogged for ages. I’ve been so busy in the garden. We’ve had a wonderful turnip harvest, the tulips are in bloom and I’m loving the results of my new fertiliser.

I guess gardening duty turned out to be more fun than I thought. Who knew raking the lawn could be so satisfying? So in the end I was kind of glad Maxwell replaced me. I actually prefer the peace and quiet of the outdoors, away from the stress of working with younger kids.

Things are really starting to look up!
