Darrell’s Letters – Week Five

Hello there. I’m Darrell Rivers and I’ve just started attending Malory Towers. Will you be my pen pal? I’ll write to you each week and it would be lovely to have you write back.

Text reads - To whoever thinks lacrosse is boring, think again! It all started with some rather bad news when Sally fell ill, but with me as first reserve, I could play in the match. What made this much an even harder pill to swallow, though, is that the match was we were up against my old school, St Hilda’s! Miss Grayling’s words helped me go through with it - "We have to face our fears, that’s where we find the curage (msp) to overcome them." My fear was right there, Miss Gale, a ghastly bully. It was also a shock to see Penelope who I attended from my form at St Hilda’s with, with sporting a haircut like mine. Less of a shock to see her and Miss Gale cheat their way through the match, disalowing (msp) my goal before half time. Sally (wizard centre and wizard freind) helped me keep my temper and her tactics helped us win! The victory was short-lived when I saw Miss Gale about to cut Penn’s hair as punishment for losing the match. Of course, Gwen was quick to alert everyone that I was attacking Miss Gale but I was standing up for Penn. Well, with all the girls as an audience, Miss Gale said that I pushed her down the stairs at St Hilda’s and that’s why I was asked to leave! It’s just not true. I was sure I was going to be expeled (msp) from Malory Towers but Miss Grayling told me I had harnesed (msp) my temper for good and stood up for injustice! I didn’t completely escape from punishment though, as I had to clean all the lacrosse sticks and boots. But thank goodness this is Malory Towers, because the girls cleaned the boots for all helped me! What nice things have your freinds (msp) done for you?.

My reply to your letters

Dear freinds, I thought I was the lucky one with my freinds at Malory Towers but by the sounds of it, you have some amazing ones too! Freinds who help you when you’re down, stand up for you at all times, congratulate you, make you feel braver (I’m trying with Mary-Lou!), happier, more confident and all sorts! Friends who let you borrow their things, give you gifts, and give you the their time (the most important gift of all)! Freinds who keep your secrets but also know when a secret is too serious not to tell someone about. I feel bad for Gwen who is struggling to make freinds but she certainly isn’t going the right way about it. For those of you who find it difficult to make freinds, you will find them, they may even find you!

My next letter will be delivered here.
