Hello there. I’m Darrell Rivers and I’ve just started attending Malory Towers. Will you be my pen pal? I’ll write to you each week and it would be lovely to have you write back.

I remember telling Mary-Lou once before that she should watch out for people walking over her. Sally could see Mary-Lou being walked over by Gwen, so we needed to hatch a plan to prove to herself and to everyone how brave she really was. Alicia gathered all the girls for a race at one end of the pool and I asked Mary-Lou (signed off Games for a week!) to throw pennies into the deep end for me, so I could dive and collect them. I pretended to get cramp and so it was down to Mary-Lou to throw me the life ring - little did I know it was being mended, so she had to be even braver and dive in and \u2018save\u2019 me! Well, I heard the girls calling her a hero \u2013 the plan worked! Oh \u2013 I managed to get Sally out of the San after telephoning Daddy and getting a local doctor sent in to give her the all clear. I\u2019m so glad she\u2019s back in the dorm \u2013 we can finally go ghost-hunting! We all chipped in to buy Mary-Lou a gift to remind her how brave she really is. Hopefully she will use the pen to write letters like this. When have you been brave?

My reply to your letters

Dear Friends (msp) Gosh! You are all so brave, much braver than I am. Some of your injurys (msp) sound very painful so you were courageous to get through them. Twisting an ankle playing sports might be one I should be wary of when playing lacrosse, as well as bicycle injurys (msp) if I ever borrow Ron\u2019s again. And standing up to people who have done wrong and standing up to bullies is also very brave \u2013 it reminds me of the time with Penelope and Miss Gale. I\u2019m glad you agree that the pen was a great gift for Mary-Lou. I really hope she treasures it. Having Sally back is a dream \u2013 she\u2019s been so brave stuck in the San. We will have to go back there again to solve the mystery of Lady Jane's ghost!
