Darrell’s Letters – Week Eight

Hello there. I’m Darrell Rivers and I’ve just started attending Malory Towers. Will you be my pen pal? I’ll write to you each week and it would be lovely to have you write back.

I let my temper get the better of me again! Poor Sally. I don’t know what it is about her little sister, Daphne, that she gets so upset about. I found the photograph of her crumpled up on the floor and tried to give it to Sally but she accused me (and my mother!) of being an interfereing (msp) busybody! And I’m ashamed to say, I pushed her. Sally became really poorly and I was sure it was my fault. I tried to tell Matron but she wouldn’t listen so I knew I had to get a doctor to her. My father was staying at the Truro Grand just over 10 miles away. I rang but he wasn’t there so I went off to find him in the night by torchlight. I thought it was the only thing I could do! Matron and Margaret decided Sally had just stuffed herself with strawberries from Open Day but I knew it was more serious. Daddy found me on the road whilst he was driving to Malory Towers. Sally was lucky – it was appendisitis (msp) and Daddy was able to remove her appendix. I was lucky too, as it wasn’t my fault otherwise I would have been riddled with guilt. I still am guilty of the push though. Sally said it hurt like billy-o and she looked happy to see me until I tried to give her the photograph of her sister again and she got angry. I’m writing to her mother…I hope that will help get to the bottom of this. Have you done something to help a freind (msp) or family member recently?

My reply to your letters

Dear Freinds, You have all done such wonderful things for your family and freinds. I’d love to taste all the delishous treats that you’ve been baking! I wouldn’t like to do the chores you’ve been doing though, but it does sound very helpful to do the cleaning and gardening. Glad to hear some of you are writing letters and also speaking on the telephone – it’s important to talk and keep in touch. If only Sally would talk to me more! Sounds like you get on with your siblings a lot better than Sally does, helping them with their schoolwork. I’m not sure Felicity would need my help with her prep as she is doing so well on her own. Thank you for your advice on controling my temper, the breathing helps and I promise to get better at it.

My next letter will be delivered here.
