Note: You can ask an adult for help when using scissors.
Draw the shape of your shield on to cardboard. It can be any shape you like, but the Kwapongs go for a circle shape and a classic shield shape.
Cut out your shield to use as a base layer. Make sure to ask an adult for help when cutting, if you need it.
Draw around the base shield to make another shield the same size. This will be your top layer.
Draw a border on the inside of the top layer.
Cut it out to make the shield edge.
Stick gems or paper fasteners around it, or decorate with anything you like!
Paint your shield edge or press on foil to make it shiny. You can paint the foil bits with watercolour to make them bright and colourful.
Use leftover cardboard to make symbols, like a crown or a heart, for the inside of the shield.
To make the base layer look like real wood, stick double-sided tape on top a cardboard roll, adding pieces of string and painting it brown.
Glue all of the pieces on to the base layer of the shield.
Make a handle for your shield using a long bit of cardboard, stick down either end with tape.
