Note: An adult will need to supervise this craft! Please be careful with scissors, painting and pouring.
First, make your base. Take a bottle and match it with a pot that fits on the bottom.
Get two pots and wrap them together with paper tape, now you’ve got your lava lamp base.
Take a paper cup and trim the bottom out of it. This is going to be the top of your lava lamp.
Get ready to paint. You can make any pattern or design you want - volcanoes, galaxies, the choice is yours. You can even draw on details with pens and markers.
Did you know, you can dip toothbrushes in paint and flick them at your lava lamps to create a splattering of pretty stars or fire? Try it!
To make the magic potion that lights up your lava lamp, put 2 teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda into a recycled plastic bottle.
With the help of your adult, fill the bottle up 3/4 of vegetable oil.
The second potion is 2 tablespoons of vinegar and a few drops of food colouring. Keep this in a separate jug until the end.
If you have a torch or battery light, you can turn it on and put it inside the base to add some extra colour and brightness.
Carefully put the oil-filled bottle into your base and put the paper cup cap on top.
Now it's time to pour. When the potions mix together, they’ll create an amazing lava lamp effect!
