most famous literary families. But who ACTUALLY were these sisters
from Haworth who had such short lives, but such a big impact..? These

1816 Born, Thornton, Yorkshire
1824 Joins sisters Maria and Elizabeth at school for
the daughters of clergy at Cowan Bridge, near Kirkby Lonsdale
1825 Charlotte and Emily taken away from the school.
At home, sisters and Branwell create and write about imaginary
world of 'Angria'
1831 Goes to Miss Wooler's School at Roe Head, Mirfield
1832 Returns home and teaches her sisters
1835 Goes back to Roe Head as a teacher
1838 Leaves Roe Head
1839 Governess at Stonegappe in Lothersdale but leaves
two months later
1841 Governess at Upperwood House, Rawdon; leaves eight
months later 1842 Charlotte and Emily enrol at the Pensionnat
Heger in Brussels to study French and German
1844 Charlotte returns home from Brussels
1845 Arthur Nicholls appointed curate of Haworth
1846 POEMS by Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell published
1846 Completes THE PROFESSOR but does not find
a publisher
1847 JANE EYRE published
1849 SHIRLEY published
After Anne's death, makes several visits to different parts
of the country meeting some of the literary figures of the

1842 Returns home on death of aunt and takes on role
of housekeeper
