Dutch Bible

Contributed by Presbyterian Historical Society

The text of this Dutch Bible, printed in 1565, is Nicholas Van Winghe's 1548 translation of the Latin Vulgate as revised in the Louvain edition of 1553. This translation was ordered by the Council of Trent in 1545 to counter the influence of the numerous and very popular versions based on Luther's German Bible.
