The workshop where William Herschel ground his mirrors and built his telescopes has been reconstructed as it might have appeared when the astronomer lived there. Replicas of his furnace and mirror polishing machine help to bring it to life. The treadle lathe however, is one of the original objects in the workshop and was given to Herschel by King George III; it was used to grind the eyepieces and smaller parts for his telescopes.
