Police have been given new powers to carry out roadside tests on drivers they suspect of being under the influence of drugs.

Officers make the driver carry out an "impairment assessment" comprising physical and mental tests.

The first check is to gauge whether the driver's pupils are dilated by comparing them to pupil sizes on a printed card
