After the near-hysteria of the afternoon, mourners now came in ones or twos to pray and reflect at the tomb of a man who was loved or loathed, but never ignored, throughout the world.

Palestinians must now elect new leaders, in the hope that they can realise the dream of national self-determination that Mr Arafat strove so hard to achieve, but ultimately failed to during his lifetime.
