Farmers urged to support dairy review
Jersey milk
The report calls for financial support for dairy farmers
Dairy farmers in Jersey have been asked to support a review which calls on them to reduce costs.

Jersey's Milk Marketing Board chairman Andrew le Gallais welcomed a report into the industry's future.

The independent review into Jersey's dairy industry said farmers and the Jersey Milk company must cut costs for the industry to survive.

But it also called on the States to provide more funds, and quickly.

Dr Donald McQueen, who carried out the review, said the States needed to provide about £340,000.

If this was not done, he warned it could spell the end for dairy production.

Mr Le Gallais said the situation facing dairy farmers was more than just acute and he hoped farmers would get behind the report.
