In pictures: China's football army
Football fans from all corners of China travelled to South Korea to watch their team's debut in the World Cup. Officials predicted that up to 40,000 fans - the largest fan contingent of any foreign team - arrived in the country.

Ironically, China's first match, against Costa Rica, fell on the anniversary of the suppression of the Chinese pro-democracy movement in Tiananmen Square.
