James Sheridan

Date of birth

24 November 1952

Political profile

Like many Labour MPs, James Sheridan entered the Commons having served as a local councillor.

Prior to entering electoral politics via Renfrewshire Council, he worked as a materials handler for an Optronics firm, where he was also the trade union convener.

His politics are rooted in the community and his political interests arise from there: he cites transport, universal provision of community services and environmental issues as his main concerns.
