A pipe bomb has exploded in the garden of a house near the Fountain estate in Londonderry.

The device went off in the early hours of Sunday. No damage was caused and no-one was injured in the explosion.

At 0045 BST the device was thrown into the rear garden of the property in Harding Street.

It was removed by bomb disposal experts for further examination.

A man and a woman who were in the house at the time were said to be in shock after the incident.

Detectives investigating the incident are trying to establish a motive.
